Long since Sirri's Solace went down?

I noticed two weeks ago that solace.appcasion.com was down, so I brought this site online again, just in case anyone is still alive :)
Have no idea what is happening though.

Thanks!  I noticed this was up.  I was doing a random check as I do from time to time, to see who may still be around. Interesting to see the occasional post here.

I read occasionally when I have pangs of nostalgia. Solace was a part of my life and a good one too :'(

you guys know that feeling when you get an overwhelming urge to play some solace? got it a few months back and it keeps gnawing at me... Hell yes I'd play it, the nostalgia is too strong.

No immortals rip solace

Immortals moved on, got families, new jobs, kids... (just like us). The project being close source effectively means it's left at a whim of several guys who have it.

Realistically, I can't imagine I will ever have time to play again :) but the lack of possibility is *still* nagging ;D

if immortals are so busy with families, jobs, whatever kids, why don't they publish solace source code?

Unfortunately, it's not open source (the closest open source code is any Merc Diku code like Tartarus (http://www.mudbytes.net/files/view/134/?path=Tartarus/README)). I regret it as much as you do, really :'(

Sadly, the genre has fallen into the oblivion. www.game.org, which used to host source code of many open source MUDs is expired.

I just thought i would veg as a kender for a bit but nope :(

- Aww rip... the feels from this forum.  I miss the RP and the drama  ;D  Would be cool if they could open it as a sandbox and just have it on a reset world timer every week.

I don't miss the poor rp and never like drama so I just solo toons now and then. It's a shame the mud is down but I guess they all got what wanted aye.

I think I started playing Solace around 15 years ago.

It's amazing isn't it? Things come and go, but the memories shared here endure. I can't help but check in here from time to time. It's also amazing how long I persisted despite my continuing history of sucking.

Alas, if Solace were up, I don't even think I would be able to play that much. I just don't have the time. Maybe one uncommitted character, just 1 hour every couple of days... not more than that. hmm...

2 months and nothing... Sad to see anyone would rather see this mud die forever than let people access the code. It's so sad that I will personally pay for the muds next 5 years np if someone will pm me with the possibility. Give me your word that these lame cheaters will be forced to comply and i might even make it 10 years.

When I talked too sirrion be4 he said he cost like 8 bucks a month for the host..i sent like 5 bucks a month just too help cover it
 And for hours of fun . Seems like a steal

If anyone has the mud and only problem is server; i can solve that...

i can provide hosting for free if this is a reason the world is down. i dont think it is a problem at all to anyone.

Laying around with the stomach bug really makes me miss playing.  Would be a perfect day too master some skills

It's not a problem to revive it at all (in fact, it's still there on my infrastructure, just sleeping).

It's a problem to find imms who will consistently do the regular chores (like inducting/policing) and will not cheat and/or cause grief. :(
Even with 10 players, it is a job.
I'm busy, Hiddy's busy, everyone is busy.

I am, like you, itching to play sometimes (playing ToME4 instead) - and more, I still have sort of dream to rewrite Solace and give it a modern rebirth with more single-player and AI stuff, as soon as making money doesn't eat most of my time (err someday?) :)

For now, let it sleep though? In current state, it quickly loses 80% of IMMersion without proper active imms. Proven by my latest reanimation attempt.
