Title: Ranger skills Post by: Quino on May 11, 2006, 04:07:17 pm You skin the corpse of a shadow dragon and make a new rangers sack!
But this sack even not fireproof and does not resist corrosion! Seems kinda useless skill as tailored skins (produce items with no saves etc) Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: Critic on May 12, 2006, 09:07:39 am I will add:
- barkskin grants with 5 resist bash slash pierce and -60AC to rangers, though it grants about 30 resists to druids and it's a blocker for them - flank is almost useless cause everyone can flee without lags and without any efforts - skin and tailored skin - just useless, newbie stuff is much better - as for third pet with feat - approximately, you can call it one time per 50 hours with strong restrictions, though it's not so tough and angry like mummy, for example PS: 1) barkskin was suxxed after some rangers took combos like minotaur+barkskin+bison affinity+solamnic plate or belt of trophies. Those ranger became invulnerable or almost invulnerable to physical attacks. There was found a solution in suxxing of barkskin, though not every ranger had bison affinity. Every ranger has barkskin, but not every ranger has bison affinity, or he is member of solamni or herecy, or he is minotaur. I would suggest to suxx exactly such combos by dividing solamnic powers, like it's in takhisis. I mean rangers have one type of powers, fighters have another, clerics have third, etc.. The same with herecy. Bison affinity and minotaur resist were suxxed too, it's right, but not with barkskin... 2) I don't know why flank was suxxed and I think it's not right. I remember two warder rangers with their pets tried to catch my thief with old flank, and I could flee from them, but they had chance. Now they don't have any chance even with more flankers. I've tested flank a lot, and I always could flee from second-third attempt (I remind that these attempts were without lag, in one round). So I would suggest to improve current flank, it's blocking ability, or return back lag when fail flee attempt. 3) make skin burnproof and resisted from corrosion, at least, and I would like it has some coefficient of compression, for example, if some sword has weight 10 pounds - it will weight 1 or 2 pounds in this sack. make tailored clothes better than newbie stuff, but worse than elite eq. And add some random affects during creating, like 10 res fire, or -50ac, or 10dr, or 50hp, or... And fore sure with higher skill you have better affects. 4) make this feat valuable. For example, with this feat you can call third animal of worse type at the same time when you use animal call. 'animal lion' - you call two lions and one bear. 'animal bear' - you call two bears and one lion. 'animal falcon' - you call two falcons and one lion. Surely the chance of call third animal depends on the skill of this feat, but it should improve with higher speed. uff, where's my beer? ;D Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: Moloko on May 12, 2006, 09:56:08 am I found nothing wrong with rangers, warder rangers in particular were always my strongest and could smash all others one on one
Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: schelkunchik on May 12, 2006, 01:16:57 pm Rangers are enough deadly right now. See logs from Morcul (or he is just exceptional talent). Besides, warders have briartangle to hold enemy. And they can lash too if they specialize whips. Indeed i am surprised that there arent many who play rangers.
Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: deda on May 12, 2006, 01:58:16 pm Morcul was an exceptional player.
Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: schelkunchik on May 12, 2006, 02:20:38 pm Aye, he was the true wrath of nature
Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: Critic on May 12, 2006, 03:40:56 pm what can i say...
only the same as with heretics: try to play. PS: I can see only one log with Morcul where he fights with cleric without weapon. yeah, it's truly exceptional. Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: schelkunchik on May 12, 2006, 03:58:21 pm Maybe it looks like to kill Durewn, but it isnt. The result is important and it was death in this case.
Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: Critic on May 12, 2006, 04:13:58 pm there were no any ranger skills, only bug with cursed weapon and missed ambush. I talk about useless skills, not about luck or bugs.
Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: Sgt Pepper on May 12, 2006, 04:23:16 pm I found nothing wrong with rangers, warder rangers in particular were always my strongest and could smash all others one on one Not all rangers are warders (not mine anyway) and I think that Quino meant that several rangers skill are useless, not that they are underpowered. I just made my first ranger and I feel like I've only wasted practices on skin (and there's no help about it). On a side note, I can't see why rangers can't be evil... I always loved the role of a deadly forest assasin. Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: schelkunchik on May 12, 2006, 04:32:27 pm Evil rangers are anti-rangers. I agree that not only with rangers, there are some classes where some skills and spells are totally waste of time.
Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: Quino on May 12, 2006, 05:39:13 pm Thank you, Sgt Pepper, yes I meant - these skills are utterly useless
Title: Re: Ranger skills Post by: deda on May 12, 2006, 08:03:15 pm I think any class has it's next to useless skills/spells... I agree with you that these skills should be changed, but the fact remains: rangers are more "playable" than some other classes...
