Title: Scrolls for notes
Post by: Bacuha on November 08, 2006, 02:28:08 am
The Idea is:

To create 2 new items: "a pencil" and "small clear peace of parchment". Using "a pencil" you can write down something and then anyone looking at this scroll will see your text. It opens many ways for role-play use. Fow example - anonymous messages of some Secret Society :) Or just love-letters.
Ofcourse, there can be different pens and papers. Maybe different ink even (for example - every "pen" has few charges of ink - like contained with liquid). So bad gus  will try to get "tattered elven skin" and will write on it with blood, neutral clerics will use simle parchment, and mages will use some magical artifacs to create burning letters on the paper :)

P.S.
Yeah, and lets cancel "note" command at all. It will be great fun!  ;D

Let's go into even more detail!

Instead of a "pencil" or "pen", get a Quill, and then bottles of ink...different quills might break, or write smoothly...if using a poor quill, you might ruin a letter and have to start over.  Maybe add a penmanship skill, to factor in?  And then the bottles of ink can have blood of elves, or normal ink, or pixie drool, or whatever. ;)

And maybe mages could write magical scrolls through this? Though it would have to take a lot of time, preparation, and expensive materials, but would be nifty, hmm?

Yeah, quill and bottles of ink! I was just too lazy to go check my dictionary for the word "quill" :P
Different parchment, different inks (some in shops, some in mobs)...
About the idea with different quills and different skill in writing - I dont know. That sounds like much more **ing with code for immortals and not that much fun. But maybe something interesting can be done with it (I really like current drunk-speaking!). Like stealing prepositions and adding mistakes for thouse with int 15 (MooOOoOooOoooo!  :P) or according to scribes skill.
But I dont think we need ability to write scrolls. It would lead us to power-play again, no matter how much preparations it takes. If it pays - it will be obused :(

Yeah, about removing "note"
I dont want to scare Imms away from the first idea with that big changes, but I really think it will be fun.
For example:
You can write your "scroll" and give it to Tower outer guard. He nods and hides it somewhere. When any Tower Member pass by - golem greets him and says about the scroll. So mage may ask for the scroll, read it and return to golem for Arcane Lord to get it finally. Ofcourse Immortal leader will see the scroll as a simple note - any time he wants. All clanleaders get "nail" skill  :) that allows them to nail scrolls about clan events in any room. Messages for mages - in The Tower, announcements for aplicants - on Palanthas Market Square or near golem.

It means a lot of work and balancing, but I think it can improve atmosphere of Solace considerably.
