Title: Sneak
Post by: deda on October 15, 2005, 11:56:57 pm
It always bothers me, when playing a non-elven assassin, the constant necessity of typing sneak  after each kill or when fleeing battle. Why not making it a default skill? The skill that will work like enhanced damage etc...

Not a natural ability for others like it is for elves?

Like hide .. message maybe .. You have failed to sneak!

Although you don't get that message for hide either unfortunately.

Unless I'm mistaken, what he meant was that for elves, sneak is auto, elves are just always sneaking no matter what.  With non-elven thieves/assassins, they have to type sneak.  They know if it succeeds, I'm pretty sure, from a message.  However, any hostile action and many others make them stop sneaking.  Which means, as he pointed out, that they have to be constantly typing "sneak" after many different actions.

I agree mostly; I'd say that sneak should be auto for non-elves after they master it.

Im sorry but I disagree.  That is the difference between a racial ability and a learned skill.  If this change is made, then the same argument could be made for any other mastered skill such as camoflage, creep, hide as they also undo with hostile action, movement, etc. and must be re-enacted.

Sneak is a natural skill for elves, so they do it naturally (due to their lightness on their feet and dexterity). I think it appropriate that others must call on the skill explicitly for it to work.

No need to apologize, everyone has their own thoughts and opinions :)
I agree that elves have the advantage of being naturally light and dextrous.  My thoughts were just that, a trained assassin or thief, who has perfected sneaking around to a degree matching that of elves, and who in their lives relies on that to survive, would by then have the same natural dexterity, as it becomes an unconscious action for them.
But maybe not ;D
