Title: Outcasts and mounted enemies.
Post by: Matthew on April 29, 2007, 12:55:00 pm
I thought there could be a cool skill for outcasts to dismount enemies for a short time by causing harm to the mount, like hamstring it or something. It should be a hard maneuver i guess. If it required a dexterity check (which i reckon it should) it would improve dark elves as outcasts.

Trip the mount, bash the mount. Why add another skill and waste the practices.  Seems as effective as acid arrow, and i have no idea why you would suggest something so trivial.

Its not rocket science.

Meaning i was suggesting a skill to disable the mount and make it impossible to ride for a few tics.

Ahhh, i see now. Why outcast skill? Rangers, fighters seem good choices as well.

I dunno i guess i picked outcast only because its a cruel thing to do but i guess an evil warrior etc wouldnt hesitate to do such things.

1. Short time. Trip causes enemy flee, mount and return or something like. The time is short.
2. Trip does damage to mount. Little damage.
3. Trip requires dexterity check as far as i know.
4. Disable mount, make impossible to ride.. Are you sure it's a thing outcasts require most of all ?

I guess you havent fought the cobar yet. I think its something dark elf, and possibly human and half elf outcasts need, but my suggestion was for RP mainly. Come to think of it, perhaps it could be tied into trip as a chance happening. Its not like you trip the horse with your hands, if you trip it with your sword or axe your bound to cause some damage sometimes.

I think you're going to have a hard time defending your logic here when eyejab does injure-maul. Someone hitting you in the eye with a sharp whip or (worse yet) a spiked flail would conceivably do more than cause minor scratches. Balance of the skill often takes priority over reality.

Is your main reason for wanting this skill to make cobar easier to fight?

I had the idea cause of the cobar, but i posted it cause i thought it was cool RP for outcasts.

You mean like make it evil for a bit? Send it crazy! Sounds like a Hiddukel type prayer.

I thought of some specifics that could go with my idea,

1 Cleave style skill so must flee to try again.
2 Outcast ends up in combat with the mount not the rider.
3 Utter failure could result in the outcast being kicked by the mount!

On the other hand i thought perhaps it could be a chargeset type skill only triggered by the impale skill.

Im having lots of idea's, give me something else that could possibly use improvement so i can have more idea's.

-    well this would make a battle with cobar easier thats for sure.  perhaps an existing curse the outcast has could be augmented a bit, cant remember the name I dont play evils so much.  The curse that makes you involuntarily convulse or something.  Perhaps this could be cast on the mount and if successfuly he may buck the rider potentially during combat...reflex save dependant.  Course with all the cleave hating I doubt outcast will get too much.
Im all for balancing so if that seems fair go for it...(biased opinion coming) but are the cobar seeming overpowered ?  there are still some buggy skills and oddities so I didnt know they were such a threat.....yet heh

I dont think cobar are over powered no, but i dont think outcasts having this skill could make them under powered either. It kinda goes with the a => b => c => d => a thing this mud has going on.

-yeah I get what your saying a roshambo type thing.  Just seems like with cleave being such a hot subject and old gripes about them having great manuals you might hit some resistance.  maybe if it was a manual it would easier to accept

I fought outcasts with manuals on my mishacleric and won hands down, on the other hand Arpade didnt have too many manuals i think but he was the highlord, we were both naked and i still won. Honestly i have never feared cleave i dont know what all the fuss is about, especially since all you need to do is blind the cleaver. . . and ive actually never ever been killed by it either. With my clerics i have just used mace swing against outcasts, see how many times they can flee and cleave if all you do is spam swing 'target' or trip or bash or jab or even murder 'target'. Cleave is for pansy's!

PS. I still think vorpal skills should be removed and replaced by vorpal weapons you have to work hard to get.

-I hear you...and I agree. just playing devils advocate,  an autokill will bring heat since it is what it is. Especially a no strings attached, no prep slayer with high damage and repeat for damage anyway...enter assassin arguement but thats another debate.  maybe a whip specific skill would be interesting, like fighter skill harpoon but with whip.  outcast would with whip in main hand attempt a lariat maneuver on mount rendering it unmountable as long as repeated reflex checks failed for mount.
