Title: Thieves
Post by: Moon_Face on June 13, 2007, 09:01:34 am
Noone clan gives so great powers to thief as a friendship with transmuter. It is strange to see, that a rober, who spent all his life on markets looting pockets have an ability to use the most dificult magic in Solace. Mages spent all thier lifes in school to learn such spells and it is unfair to see a thief using such strong magic easily. It looks strange.
And btw thiefs have anough powers to be very annoying, there is no reason to give them so great magic turning them to ultimate fighters.
Present spells below 20th mages rank is more than enough for thief from my point of view.
For example blink instead of displacement and harden skin instead of sanctuary will look much better balanced.

Quote from: Hiddukel
Solace will never be a safe haven

That's it. Nothing will ever be done to thieves :'(

p.s. Oh, wait a moment, I'll get another link

p.p.s. Damn, I can't find this thread. If anyone manages to find a topic with quote given above, please post a link here.

Concerning thiefs books - they just have nice memory... many classes can use scrolls, for thief it is the same. he has set of scrolls in his book and nice memory to memorize them...
Thief doesn't understand how and why it is working...

make a thief, make a necro, make an invoker, rank to hero and rule...

Aye, make thief, get displacement, sanc and harden skin, make some money, buy some potions, kill, kill, kill, loot, loot, loot, join hiddy's shrine, kill kill kill some more. . Thief is 10x better assassin than assassin.

Damn, any Season assassin with even half a brain would rock my thief -grumble-

Edit: Also, any invoker, most clerics, necromancer, skilled ranger, etc etc

Thieves have no cleave, by the way - so they are definitely not the best pk class.

I want to say, that a balance and a role a bit broken with such thieves abilities.

Abjuration has his spells which suits his role very well (defencive walker), but thief now became something another then rober. Such mix of spells is unfair to abj.
There are only one category of enemies where abj is stronger - naked people because hold person start to work.

Displacement is not just a spell of simple mage - it is a spell of very thin mage specialization (Abjuration magicmajor). It is the most powerful spell in Solace and i should say then even abj himself do not have it so nice working in form like thief.
Only powerful magic things like orbs, staffs, rods, potions, scrolls which contain magic incide themself (because a rank of spell does not depend on caster but on a power of artefact) may give other classes ability to place displacement upon them.

I ask gods to review thieves again and do not let them cast spells higher 20 mages rank. Moreover, i ask to lower rank of spell casted by thieves by -15 spellpower.

By the way, currently thieves description on solace website does not describe the class in game.

Woland
:)))

Thiefs are one of the best class for trash chars because they don't need to have anything when trying to weaken his enemy even in such cheap ways like steal and pilfer.
Again, an year ago I saw a pair of light walking gopa that did nothing but pilfer and steal, then store store store eq.

A thief cannot be holded effectively because of recovery, so he can come, try bj pilfer steal then flee. Come again. Flee. Cloak in hidden room somewhere in realms and store.

Please keep in mind that it's not about one particular thief. Same can be said about any of them...

For example- I do not play Necromancers so I NEVER ask for them to be lowered- as I have never played one.

People should play thieves to hero and rule with them, before asking them to be lowered. Solace turns to kindergarten (c) Unreal

I fight and died against Lyeine many times, but how can I ask for them to be lowered when I would not be able to rule with necro as they are now??

Play the class before demanding changes, don't just see your ass being kicked every time and think its unfair!!

I agree that thieves are not overpower. Or what will be next? Somebody could ask to lower abjurers because Iyel is powerful? (though only eq makes him a little more dangerous than usual). And so on... lower mages because of that one, lower outcasts because of him, etc... (though i still think cleave has too big chances).
Isinda is not overpowered, or else what to say about Lyeine? Should necrons be lowered?
Fighting with Lyeine - death in two rounds.
Fighting with Isinda - you have chances.
And nobody complained about necromancers,  but there are  complains about thieves... I don't see logic here.

It is good to be necromancer because of power but it is so boring to master spells... In every age i make necromancer and invoker and i never become hero... and even never reach all spells... mastering is so boring... anti-playing...but that is price for power...

btw, why there are so many forum member who are hidden? Are they hunted by Haag tribunal? :) Do they think that somebody really care for their usernames?
please tell me why, enlighten me

Nobody complains about necromancers cause complaining is kind of pointless. ;)

Moon_Face roll a thief and try to kill any sane player.

No one complains about necromancer because there are simple ways to take care of them, thief can have any damage type from daggers he finds, necromancers have alot of damage, but only negative and bashing, and only so much defense, thief is a class that can hardly be hit, even avoids damage from what would usually be an unblockable attack AND has alot of damage from whatever damage type it chooses. And it  seems to be 10x easier to join hiddy's shrine than chemosh. My biggest problem with thieves is they are not 'thieves' especially not as described on the website, but bloodthirsty full looters.

Woland, I easy killed Warlord with my thief... Nobody could catch and kill me...
Is it normal? I doubt it.

So I vote to lower thives too.

PS: Shapa is a very good player, and he voted to lower thieves too, or make specializations for them, very nice suggestion.

PPS: Now thieves are overpowers.

I think thieves should get paralisys, pwk, invoker shields, bless and protect evil/good...  :P That way only neutrals would stand a chance to survive the beginning of the second round... :(
