Heh, when i first saw this threads title i thought this is another post on how to spell 'griffon'!

Interesting fact - original english spelling of 'griffon'(which is french spelling) - Griffoun
Todays 'english' spelling 'Gryphon' derived from latin spelling 'Gryphus' heh. Languages are whack.

Yeah, it should be
A griffon spreads his wings (for flight) and leaps into the air.

Why? Griffon is not small creature, so it need jump firstly then spread the wings.
In other way gravitation must hold it on earth.
