Watch "Pandorum"
Also, all married couples should see "Antichrist" by Lars von Trir.

too much CGI for my taste... anyhow, I'll give it the benefit of a doubt as soon as it hits cinemas over here.  8) Watching it on PC would be such a waste.

This movie is old, but it's fantastic: Blade Runner. You guys ever watched it?
I just finished reading the book which inspired the story of the film. It's a very good book by Philip K. Dick, called "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"
I really do recommend both book and movie for those interested in science fiction. And for everyone elso too!
PS: The soundtrack is incredible!

I read the book and watched the movie. After reading the book, the movie seemed very pale and I have never watched it again, although I love Rutger Hauer's role in that movie. Like many of Dick's other books, this one also gives a feeling of not being completely finished (or my English version lacks a few last pages :D). Still, him being one of my favourite writers, I'd recommend you his best book "Ubik". That one is perfect and completely finished.  8) Also, the you might wanna read/watch "Scanner Darkly".

for the fans of Clive Barker's monstrous mind: "Midnight Meat Train" is a must see! Football fans would also like the movie since Vinnie Jones plays the main role.  ;)

It's Harry Harrison :)
I can recommend whole Deathworld series, one of my most fav - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deathworld

Andre Norton is pretty famous over here too - check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sargasso_of_Space

They both write different kinds of sci-fi, not just space-related. I do read them often, they are on second place after brothers Strugatsky for me.

Cloverfield is excellent. The Monstro wins! :)

I bet it's another Hollywood bullsh*t attempt to fathom the ancient (Greek?) mythology...

What do you think about "Gamer" ?  As for me, it's performs much more action than Willis's "Surrogates" having the same core idea.

I was really looking forward to watching this movie. The storyline was promising and i actually like Gerard Butler. After half an hour im thinking to myself ... OK this has GOTTA get better, but sadly it didn't, it got a whole lot worse tho. What started as a movie with a decent plot rapidly turned into an extended marilyn manson video, it made absolutely no sense, the characters were about as deep as a dwarfs bathtub and at one point i actually had to stop myself from gouging my eyes out with a rusty spoon. I, honestly, cannot think of anyone who would find this movie entertaining in any shape or form and can say with complete seriousness that I've had more fun at the dentist ... having a root canal

IMDb review. Although 90% of IMDb reviews are complete nonsense, I think I'll pass. Even "Outlander" which was total crap except for the main actress wasn't compared to root canal surgery.

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN

Heh..looks like no emotions from "Avatar" here. Pretty strange:)

well, the whole storyline of "Avatar" is exposed in the trailer. There's not much depth in it. Still, I'm gonna see it tomorrow!  ;D

I watched Avatar. In terms of effects and stuff it is really amazing. The story is like a futuristic Pocahontas... so not very special. But in general, the movie is very good, and manages to grasp and maintain your attention from the begining to the end.

Oh yes! 3D format is great! Exept for the glasses... they really hurt... but that's because in Brasil they don't dare make decent glasses, because they don't want to spend money on it. Damn f***ers...

damn, I am about to watch it in 3D, but I wear prescription glasses so if I wear 3D glasses I'm not gonna be able to see sh*t! DAMN CHEAP f*ckERS for not making 3D glasses with dioptre lenses!  :(

 ;)

Title: Re: Movies
Post by: deda on December 29, 2009, 07:44:45 pm
well, 3D glasses were big enough, fortunately, the story was as shallow as possible and I SOOOOOOOOOO  enjoyed myself! ;)

Watch it in 3D. It's worth the pain.

- Saw Avatar... have to say was pleasantly surprised.  The story line is basically been beat to death but twisted just enough to not be too predictable.  Of course I liked this movie better when it was called "Dances with wolves"... shameless Native American allegory's going on lol.  All in all...I recommend it

I enjoyed Christmas Carol with my family; imo it's much better than Avatar!!

nothing is better than Avatar. It has shown us the future of video games... some 20 years from now we will all have hi-tech coffins to sleep in while living in the game world...  ;)

Actually, what are you talking about was already shown in "Surrogates" and somehow in "Gamer" and it's awful future to my mind ;D

As for "Avatar" - i don't like it as a movie. It's awesome cartoon, and they invest a lot of money in that technologies that fasten the release and made that cartoon much more realistic.
But as a movie - it sucks ... 8)

on topic: a few years back there was a movie called "EXistenz" by David Cronenberg. You might wanna check it out. Also, I've read somewhere that they are filming Dan Simmon's Hyperion Cantos!  :o

:o
Just finished "A Scanner Darkly"... Amazing... amazing... a...ma...zing...
Couldn't find "Ubik" in any store... I'm gonna start "A Man in the High Castle" soon, already have it waiting at home, but now I started reading the Bernard Cornwell's grail trilogy. I already read the first book. Really, really nice medieval fantasy.
I also want to read Dick's "Flow my Tears, the Policeman said", but can't find it in the stores...

"A Confederacy of Dunces" - John Kennedy Toole. One of the most hilarious books ever. Demands an extreme knowledge of English slang (if you plan to read it in English like I did) but it's worth it.

Ahh, and the ending of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" is very strange indeed... I also felt it hadn't finished when I read it... but it's awesome in its own way.
