Title: Equipment revamp
Post by: Kiri-Jolith on May 24, 2007, 10:25:51 am
Good day.

I am planning equipment revamp in Solace. So it would be nice to have your ideas. There are things from some hard areas which suck. Name them, let me check and change them to something tasty.  ::)

First thing that comes to my mind is renegade (heaten) druid from Silvanesti forest. It took me 40 minutes to kill him(doing only wounds) and he was wearing some common staff, scarab of death (crap from identify) and some belt of leaves (crap too).
(Maybe he is wearing something better but it was taken, so i risk to make myself stupid though ;).

I like this idea very much. I was already thinking to post in ideas section how it would be nice to make more eq, because it would make refreshment to old players who know all items very well. It has become routine to go on the same places after every reboot... and routines can be boring :). I am for this idea and not only that - maybe it could be expanded by not only changing stats of existing items, but also by creating new items as well!

Mmmm I know you won't like this comment much but what if you do some work on balancing classes instead of changing items which is a bit unnessesary :) since there are enough good item at the moment  :-\

It will be good limited eq, but not best. Yes, we want that, because hardness and level of some mobs doesn't match eq they drop.

"Sounds like fighterlike item, but from armor 15 15 15 15 fighter will gain 45 ac "

Correction, fighters get 29 ( 3*6 + 11) - only upper ac multiplies with three

IMHO nowdays you can easily get very good set during a week as maximum coz all best things are on mobs (or appear on them from time to time). People cry about improvement coz they are too lazy for exploring and spending time to visit really hard monsters and kill them getting very good clothes one by one from each monster. Как говорится, под сидячую жопу и пятак не подсунешь.

so is that original list with the 'cross-out' lines through some mob names going to be progressively updated and we just need to checkback every once in a while?

Next part of eq, reported by Durewn, was revamped. I didn't log items, so you have to check yourself.

Added more fixes for equipment, part of Durewn report and Soth. Also I'd like to see reports about newbie equipment. I am sure it needs revamping too.

thorbardin priest... relatively hard (the only good thing is that he is near healer, so healing is quick). Bad mace and pendant.

Title: Re: Equipment revamp

Thorbardin king holds Hammer of Kharas which is nice but physical damtype is crappy.

Dont change this weapon damtypes, kharas hammer is powerful enough.  ::)

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: Kage on May 29, 2007, 03:19:07 am
-perhaps gear in stores could be revamped...raise prices and make useful.  make some purpose for stockpiles of gold that is near useless accept for buying mounts and potions.   OFFTOPIC  maybe make hero mounts?  good , evil and neutral type

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: Matthew on May 29, 2007, 06:10:07 am
I can think of five or six much better dam type maces which are also much easier to get than Hammer of Kharas.

Alot of dragonscale gear that loads on the various dragons around have large -dex penalties which makes most of those pieces almost useless. For instance icingdeath, the big white one on Ice island with the 10 minute long name, hrm everything else has been mentioned i think. Vargin shin kings ring use to have pass door flag or something, perhaps we can return some of these flags? Bless flag was on ring in mausoleum too. A few class only flags on some things would be good too. Mages running around in full plate is kind of wrong.

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: Kage on May 29, 2007, 06:45:34 am
-yeah all good stuff.  maybe some autocasting items that dont necessarily have to be uber powerful, like for the mid-level enthusiast, autocast faerie fire, curse, magic missile (not super transmuter version *ducks*), harm , dispel good? or flags like shield , bless, armor, protection ...or not. :P

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: Kiri-Jolith on May 29, 2007, 12:10:47 pm
Finished second part reported by Durewn, and more. This time I even added some new autocasting items. Reboot will be soon with these new changes.

Title: Re: Equipment revamp

Autocasties!?! Where, where??!!?? ;D

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: Matthew on June 01, 2007, 09:49:09 am
I reckon found a few things that need tweaks yesterday!

Milky white sharks eye - appears to be a light with only huge penalty, looks to be from old saves system perhaps?
A blue white skin
and Jaws from the shark underwater near lava island

All of the deep sea dragon theres stuff that i have seen is pretty junky too.

gold dragon scale legplates

hrm i thnk the only thing on icingdeath worth wearing are the horns.

Shield of living flame

dark metal legplates from the two headed draconian on lava island

Im not sure if they're suppose to be that way but legplates of wraithkind in silvanesti were utterly devoid of any bonus or penalty. They do look cool on though :P

Thanks so far, having just returned my character was naked, it took easy a third the time to have a new set of gear.

Shannon's items are mino only and the whole set has huge dex penalty... IS it supposed to be so?

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: Matthew on August 12, 2007, 10:27:12 am
I don't understand why the huge dex penalties on those sets like shannons, thorb kings and dwarf in asalandor forest. They're not that great they need a penalty at all and the mobs arent a knock over.

It can be used, sadly as a shield only!

Title: Re: Equipment revamp

It was probably established in the past when shield could hit, with shield speci suppose

Title: Re: Equipment revamp

wakizashi is actually a japanese sword,  a smaller version of katana.
Was used by dual wielders, helps  parrying. Seems thats one of the reason it was made as a shield :)

Or it was universal item, could be wielded or held as shield in original Rom. But solace doesnt allow such things.

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: Kage on August 14, 2007, 12:53:10 am
-this is fine...but the mobs that hold a class like assassin etc...should be bound like another assassin.  If my assassin holds this wakazashi it should act as it does on the drow assassin. I think anyway

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: Matthew on August 14, 2007, 11:50:45 am
As far as I've seen this is the only item in the game like that, if it made a good shield no one would care i think, but it is what? +5 dam and thats it as a shield? perhaps just make it a weapon again. . .funny thing is im sure it was updated already as before flaming it was flaming and not vampiric or the other way around i forget, but left as a shield.

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: Matthew on August 14, 2007, 12:20:18 pm
Regarding Shannon's set of gear, when wearing it a poor mino with no other plus dex has 3 dex, reflex saves are lower even though every piece except the ring has + to reflex saves on them and some small fortitude as well, theres a fair bit of damage, it should be fixed up for sure Shannon is quite strong. Same as the dwarf in asalandor forest and king of thorb, who has only slightly better stuff but is much harder to kill.

Also i had another idea for this stuff, i noticed that theres not really much in the way of kender clothing. I went looking for it to clothe my kender, anything that is a container has terrible stats, there is a vest that is ok i guess, it could be better considering the other items loaded by the same mob, but anyway, there are several higher level kender mobs about and they mostly have 1 thing on them, a hoopak! One wears a belt which isn't anything special. I was thinking some cool pocketed brightly coloured kenderish stuff would be neat. Not all on the same mob though, but some of it should be kender only!

So far, I've found elf/human/mino/draco-only stuff... What about other races? Like they don't exist  on Krynn... Oh, I forgot - found 2 gnome-only rings... :P

Magic forest eq could be improved,
Vargin something (where trolls are) bone armor is junk,
area a little below Vargin where drows are is full with junk,
near heretick camp there is a small area with dwarfs there eq also could use redo,
hammered eq and dragon scale eq in nereaka almost useless considering how hard it is to get.

Rialon, I mean:
there _is_ need for lots of nice gears when there are lots of players
but there aren't many.

So everyone comes dressed superbly and PK MUD turns out to be a kindergarten.

Sorry for russian, "накипело"

Yea, you are right. But nonetheless, it is nice to enter with a naked hero char and get redressed nicely in a matter of hours, not days  :). It's just personal opinion, because i can't play a lot right now and all my stuff usually poofs, when i enter.

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: dedraelos on September 28, 2007, 09:09:23 pm
I'm hoping for a few more weapons. If you have 2 or 3 fighters (or outcast/ranger/knights) with same specialty chosen, then they can easily get all good weapons of one type.

Say you wanted to make ranger who uses flails, but you have 1 ranger in Solamnia who holds 3 limited flails/whips. 1 Ranger and 1 fighter in heretics that both use flails. You want to be a nimble ranger but 9 or more limited flails/whips are taken.

Yes, PK is the best way to get items. Hard to take items from the elite PKers when your wearing wyrmling gear and their clan travels edges/nether/isle frequently.

Same scenario with all weapon types.

polearms are not always bladed weapons, some have hammers and maces on the end but i forget what you call them, some are like axes(halberd) and some are just extra long spears(pikes)

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: Kage on November 07, 2007, 04:41:26 am
- Ill research that a bit, but a pike I would agree is a type of spear.  Where as a halberd Ive seen is like a spear but with an axe slicing blade on its side with a spike on top.  In some rpgs they do slicing and piercing damage (neverwinter nights).  I guess I pictured a pole arm as a glaive or something...like a slicing weapon as opposed to a piercer or bludgeon.  But either way....Darins stinks..perhaps polearms should just be tossed together with spears.  You cant spec for polearms can you anyway?
Oh isnt a crushing weapon on a long staff called a maul or something.

Title: Re: Equipment revamp
Post by: Matthew on November 07, 2007, 05:03:08 am
A maul is a woodsplitting hammer, sledge hammer style head with one side bladed so that it can be hit with another hammer. Often have axe length handles, but there are short handled ones.

Post by: Kage on November 07, 2007, 03:37:27 pm
- that is a modern day maul...I have one for splitting logs...I was thinking of the battle version similiar to one from Diablo 2, two handed with almost just a square block at the end.  A dire mace also seems to be a long handled double sided mace.  but anyway I could talk about this stuff forever.

also a battleaxe of enchanted dwarven steel, 26 average slice damage. There are lots of such axes on very easy mobs (minotaur in ice mountains, barbarian near pax tharkas, zombie in dargaard, dwarf in kalaman mountains). Obviously such a tough and vicious mob as Bruenor should wield something better.

I'd suggest making it superb, but for dwarves only.

If  spellpower 60 is not too much for pwk and sleep, then ok.

If  spellpower 60 is not too much for pwk and sleep, then ok.

Please realize the difference between spellforce and spellpower.

In any case, I decided not to make this a regular old powerful item with some random saves, some random mana and hp. I made this item with one purpose of offensive ability. It has absolutely no defensive use. So, it is powerful in some ways, and weak in another.

Also, please reserve discussion here for listing items that need changes. If you disagree with changes, please start new topic, so we can discuss without clogging between lists and debates. If you still think that ring of necromancy is overpowered, please start a new topic. I am more than happy to discuss it more, and have no intention of adding overpowered items to the game.

These are totally unseal at any rank, maybe boost them so they become a bit useful at some mid ranks?

A draconian mage is gushing blood.
A draconian mage is using:
<worn on finger>    (Glowing) a ring carved from human bone
<worn on body>      a pitch-black robe
<wielded>               (Invis) (Magical) a dragon-hilted dagger
[/log]

That entire area with draconians could use a boost up. IMHO they should be equivalent to dwarfs in Thorbardin (first level am not talking about king and rest).
