Idea is right. But should be death from a guardian or special guard, not just guardian himself, that's all. In this case there would be no misinterpretation in the log.

a guardian or special guard or anyone who killed criminal due to guardian intervention - i.e. like it's shown in log, shappa obviously died due to shackles on him+gopa of special guards despite the fact that griyam killed him.

Hmm... Shackles? A priest can gate away, die and he is free then? Shappa died because he decided it was too much. He could have slain the special guards easily if he wanted. Anyways, it was VERY special case - it is rather seldom, that someone else is fighting the criminal while the guardians are.
