What gives with the gate?

Outside the Eastern Gate of New Thalos
  You stand outside the protective walls of the city. The massive iron gate
sits to the west and the unknown awaits you eastward.

You see no gate here.

Means they are to the west.

Anyways, for next reboot, both eastern and western gates are no longer closed on the inside only (now they are totally open). South gate was left as it was.
