Don't see nothing wrong with it. Actually I'm quite satisfied that you (A Knight and a Cleric) weren't able to summon so that you could do a 2vs1 cowardly fight. But keeping my opinion afar, I think you should try and know your enemies powers better. It's not only spellbane that protected them from summon, it's warpaint. And against the ring, I'd bet again that it's warpaint. They kept blue warpaint while you were in cabin trying to summon, and changed to red warpaint when battle started, protecting themselves from elemental and other magics.

But I still don't understand your point. You two clearly had the advantage, they are clanned, and you are not. So why do you complain?

To awnser your question, no, I am not blind. I am saying, that if you had summoned, it would have been a 2vs1 fight.
Tower mages do have a tough time, but they have their ways.
And warpaint is one of the few clanpowers that has a helpfile for it. Just give it a look.

if by avoiding spells you mean about rolling aside, that's called evasion, and the skill is granted to the shadow squad but it works only against area spells, not direct spells. what I don't get is that spellbane works against staff of stars but not against chromatic although both are autocasting, which makes my statement that chromatic armor spells are area spells.

derek, blue warpaint protects from summons, spellbane depends from will saves (if they have around 50+ - it's enough to deflect most of the spells), evasion depends of reflexes saves - so havin 50+ Nierth could roll very offen.
