I think when a skeleton dies it should just 'crumble into pile of bones' or something, not leaving a corpse possible to animate (thus making zombie of skeleton), mummify or decay to make a skeleton of the next level of recursion.

It will be a problem catching messages like:

You dodge the skeleton of the skeleton of the skeleton of a flesh golem pound.

If full set of such skeletons will strike you... many links could die Wink

Without light, there is no beauty, only suffering.

personally, i dun think i could tell a skeleton of one person form one from another another. Its not like a zombie, wich is recognizable(remaining with the origial, yet decayed, features of the body). So, in the particular case of skellys, i think they could be named according to power(mob lvl), not containing the name of the originator itself. Also helps maintain some of the necros secrecy.
make kewler descs for more powerfull skellys, as in:
A skeleton wich seems to move by itself. (lower lvls)
A darkened skeleton with red unholy eyes. (hieher lvls)
-sorry, no inspiration whatsoever for more, or good, examples.-
but u get the point.

for zombies i dun know really.
mummies could have a simmilar resolution, as they are all covered in straps of cloth, and also arent the easiest to recognize Tongue

My suggestion:

Corpses => skeletons, zombies, mummies
Skeletons => die forever
Zombies and mummies => skeletons

The normal and animated dead corpses can be reduced to skeletons, the skeletons do not produce corpses and just dissolve after death.

I do not like the idea about making all raised undeads looking the same. It is always a hard job to distinguish the one you need among the many similar one, as they mess up then travel. And possessing a skeleton of fallen enemy is a good way to show off.. no need to strip it!
