Does nobody remember this? I think we've gotten away from fighters being able to defensive classes. The most defensive melee classes now are assassins and I think that properly outfitted and specced a fighter should be a more effective tank.

Assassins are dextrous races. Take a race like that, staff spec, uncanny dodge and in full defence a fighter becomes greatly aversive.

I have. Elven fighter, staff spec, full defensive with nice gear in Solamnia. Can't get much more defensive than that and trust me, then increase in defense never seemed to balance out the loss of power.

Shield spec was too "nasty". I mean, how could you blind someone with your shield? Not a bad idea, but it must be rewritten...

Speaking as someone who's been punched in the face with a shield, I can understand the skill completely Smiley

yeah... but then technically you could blind someone with any object.

Your downward crushing blow hits Pkspamr in the face.
Pkspamr appears to be blinded

You strike Sumnoob in the face with your sword, HE IS PERMANENTLY BLINDED!!

there has to be limits, right??  Cheesy Grin

I've been hit in the face with a daneaxe as well, trust me a shield blocks your vision more. It's to do with the type of edge/surface.

There was a good spec, and somewhy we have it removed.

Did you see any fighter using a shield? I saw. But it was in the times when shield spec existed.

Also it was very useful for knights. For now, if I would play a knight, I would better use a staff than something one-handed with a shield. Because I can pugil/overhead with staff, and I have stand-off that will save my arse if my mount is bashed (shield block works bad if you're not mounted).

Is there _anyone_ who is against returning this spec?
