I disagree with this partially...kender priest(as there are in books) is ok kender mage is not.

Why is animation of skeletons considered easier than raising dead as zombies?
Just think about it: necromancers has a corpse of a recently dead creature. It is still in relatively good shape (possibly lost a lot of blood and some limbs) so (s)he needs to restart or change not so many processes in it to bring it to unlife.
And with skeletons, (s)he needs to create something completely new: a sort of self-sustaining source of magical energy that would move the bones, let alone keep them in right position, telekinetically. Not to mention skeletons have no brains, so unless they are under permanent detailed control by necromancer (and they obviously aren't) they also need some sort of mind, also "running" in the empty air.

So my suggestion is to switch zombies with skeletons, make zombies last only a few days (say, 5-15) and be much slower, less resistant, and faster to make than skeletons.
As for mummies, I still think they should be more sentient than usual minions and retain some of the abilities of the corpse owner.
