At the time when Solace had tens of players online, I think the idea was that your big quest reward is something uniquely yours, something that can't be stolen or taken from you, something people had to work for by themselves.

It's interesting how the flask is a fountain, not water container.
Avoids the problem of getting it poisoned with a poison breath and then forever being stuck with undrinkable unremovable flask.
