Title: Veloci
Post by: Jemma on October 06, 2004, 11:17:49 am
Ok. I don't mind if you  stole but to log off straight away before I came too? Why? New items for your newbie char? What is the gain for such actions?

Cowards, thats all  ;) No need to stress. Think of it this way....

He has his fun, loots you a little, logs off and then...does what?

Sit looking at a blank moniter? So his fun runs out VERY quickly, where as you can be in the realms still, swearing to everyone that will listen, running aorund geting new stuff, and probably getting into even more fights along the way.

No need to stress hun!

But me? Stressing?  :o WOULD I STRESS????  :o ;D   :P

Oh well. The volunteers who work under me call me a bitch, so, I might as well try and be one now and then LOL :D

zondra...just want to say this to you...and ppl like you.

pls remember that ppl spend hours building their roleplay and character up in solace. all it takes is for someone like you to just blackjack or backstab or strangle or assassinate them "for fun" and they suffer a great setback.

now i dun wanna complain about the way you play your characters...but i hope you will just spare a thought for others.

anyways...having a character "for fun" like you said it...you are admitting outright that your character has no rp at all...just there to do what you want. and alot of times you are just pissing ppl off.

pls stop doing that...

regards.

Zondra,

The fact that you use one of your characters to "get back at people you don't like" tells me that RP has no place in your mudding, and you are a part of the problem here.  One key for RP is that you must separate what each of your characters knows.  So, if your knight, cleric, whatever is killed, your thief CAN NOT KNOW.  Your characters can not even know that each other exists, and can do NOTHING to help the others.  That is what most of us call multiplaying, and will get you deleted on any decent mud that enforces RP.  Sorry for the directness, but it's true.

As always, feel free to reply.

Yea..because you know my chars. other than Zondra, My one thief steals things. and this is bad roleplay. i wonder why they are called thieves? i also black so that i can prac. pilfer. so you don't see me running around pking anyone. but hey you can think what you want. but if stealing isn't a thiefs roleplay then i wonder what is

Stealing is not a thief's roleplay at all. Stealing is just the beginning, a very very small part of it.

You need to create something for your character, some set of ideals, beliefs, goals, passions, hates, loves!

If a thiefs roleplay is just to steal, then he's no better than a zombie...

wake, steal *, steal *, sleep.

Wake, repeat, for ever.

I think that people who play thieves (well maybe not all) don't see 'thief' they see 'skill to take an object from another player'.

Until we stop looking at each class and race like this....

necromancers (Great, mummies! Super powerful!)
thieves (I can get objects easy!)
fighter (now I can eyejab my way to easy pks!)

And so on....we should try and imagine a role for our characters. Not every character should be an insane killer!! :)

I also would like to see something coded:-

In the city of Palanthas, (maybe even just in a few places) if a crime is committed:-

[log]You here the sounds of booted feet rushing towards you!
A cityguard has arrived.
A cityguard has arrived.
A cityguard says 'Blahblah, you are under arrest for disturbing the peace.'
A cityguard's slash maims you!

Combat round skipped...

A cityguard whacks you over the head with a wooden baton.
You are knocked unconscious.
You are dragged away and placed in the city prison.

You awake with a pounding headache.

look

The Palanthas Jail

A dank, chilly chamber opens up around you, cold stones and slime-covered iron making up the walls. The ground is littered with mouldy hay, and a rough, stinking mattress lies against the south wall. A rat peers at you from the rusted bucket that will be your toilet for the next few days.

Exits: NONE

After 20 ticks....

A cityguard has arrived.
A cityguard says 'You are free to go, Blahblah. Keep out of trouble in future.'

You are led from the cells and thrown roughly into the dirty backstreets behind the Palanthas Courthouse.

[/log]

Zondra,

I never said that it is wrong for a thief to steal.  You're right, that's what they do.  But, if you are using your thief to avenge things that happen to other characters of yours, it is wrong.  That is what you said you are doing, and what I was referring to.  Like I said, if you are using one of your characters to help another, it's wrong.  If you are playing a thief, as a thief, go for it.  People should protect thier gear better.  That's what I meant.  I hope this is more clear.

As I was writing this, Grim posted his reply.  I agree completely with what he said.  Your skillset, and "profession" are only a part of your character.  You should also have a life outside your "job", as most of us do in the real world.

On a happier note, I was in the square for like 10-15 minutes last night, and nobody died!  RP actually happenned, with (3) of us in PK range in the same room!  It was amazing.  Maybe this is the start of something.... ;)

As always, feel free to reply.

Feats are being a problem since it came in, people do random PK or random stealing to get gold for feats.

I had a kender thief and i liked shiny things, but I used to steal only if someone piss me off, make fun of me or something.

My enemies would never stay with a good item for too long, but i had only 4 or 5 of them.

Have you people ever tried to gather gold yourselves? ::)

Allow me to clarify a bit.  If a thief is acting for themself, in accordance with thier normal conduct, they can steal anything anyone allows them to.  They are thieves, after all, and thieves steal.  The only problem I had is when it was sounded like it was being done for OOC reasons.  If you don't want your stuff stolen, protect it.  There are ways to ensure you are never stolen from, as long as you are awake and alive.  If you get blackjacked, there isn't much you can do.  Again, as long as it is done for IC reasons, great.  Saying a thief can't use thier abilities is like telling a mage not to cast.  Or a cleric not to pray.  But, EVERYTHING your character does, should be done IC, and in the context of THAT character.  So, if you kill someone, the character (not the player) you are attacking with should have a reason.  if a thief steals your gold, that's how they earn thier living.  Protect your gold, and you won't have that problem.

Now, I say if you are a thief, feel free to steal.  Full looting someone is not what I have in mind.  There is HARDLY EVER a reason to full loot someone.  Even for a thief.  Take a couple of choice items, and leave them the rest.  And, if you are the one attacking, autoloot isn't an excuse, either.  Any PK you commit should have been roleplayed for, and planned.  Therefore, you should have turned off autoloot, knowing you were going to attempt a PK.  If you are attacked, put most of it back.  All looting does is piss off the player, as I'm sure everyone in this mud knows well.

That's it for this one.  As always, feel free to reply.

Elvie .. people make gold for themselfs? :O  unheard of and unthinkable for some.  lol Actually, I have discovered how easy it is to make gold, and that is without stealing from anyone expect mobs, sac things, sell things. FAR more easier and all the more for me.

Zondra, am I to take it ... you are Veloci?  My objection was Veloci leaving realms so quickly. And I was not standing in MS doing nothing.  And I think it is not the first time Veloci has done that and left quickly.

I'm an elf-kender, and I love shiny too! ;D  But as all kender (or part kender ;) ) I know that stealing is terribly, terribly wrong!  Nobody should take something that doesn't belong to them!  Oh, and on the subject of Veloci, he seems to enjoy blackjacking or backstabbing my kittens randomly, so I make little melted puddles of Veloci at those points with my shiny new firechain spell ;D
