Title: Cityguards
Post by: Solan on October 20, 2004, 02:07:58 am
When one considers that the cityguards of Palanthas and so forth will leap to defend any evil creature as well as any good one, perhaps it would make more sense to have them all neutral?

I agree with that.

In my opinion guardians also should be for all align, a good one will protect the law and help innocents, the neutral would follow as strictly as possible matterless of align, and evil ones could use the law for their own gain.

I didn't read dragonlance, so I don't know if that's possible, but is an idea...

At the moment, Guardians are allowed for all align, so long as they're lawful ;)
From what I know of them, they sound sort of like the Legion of Steel from the 5th age, which used to be a part of Solamnia but broke off and now help people and protect cities and so forth.  If that's right, I could never see them accepting a draconian into their ranks ;)  Neutrals and goodies yes, but evils nope.  Then again, Guardians might not be based on the Legion of Steel *whistles*

I think 'traditional' evil races should not be allowed in the Guardians, i.e draconians and dark elves.

However, from a purely roleplaying aspect, an evil character SHOULD be allowed to join because to all intents and purposes, noone should KNOW he is evil at heart.

I know its impossible to put this into practice, as its really easy to see who is good and evil. But I've always disliked how people say 'Whats your path?' 'Oh, I am evil' 'I am good, we cannot join.' etc.

I think, apart from elves and dark elves/dracs, your alignment should be a huge secret, and people will really have to know you and watch you to understand which way you lean.

So my comments are quite off topic actually. So I'll be quiet now :)

PS

I've just read all this. I know what I wanted to say, but haven't quite managed to put into words. So I'm sorry if it makes no sense!  ::)

Quite frankly I agree, though as well Dark Elves shouldn't be instantly distinguishable...after all, they're just elves who have been outcast for whatever reason, they aren't drow
However, the original topic of this was to change the align of the cityguards ;D

"Greetings sir" I ask, to this scaled ugly creature that looks like a draconian.
"what would your following be .. that of good, or one of evil, or have you no preferences?"

"hmmmm" replies the draconian, as he spits forth acid from his mouth.

"I would be .. good, follower of the light ... NOT!"

Yes, I can see how that would work :D
