Solace II / Common Discussions / Solace is *not* closing
|
on: August 29, 2004, 04:10:16 pm
|
The previous forum post about solace closing was done by someone who exploited the forum script to post as Chemosh. Solace is *not* closing.
Chemosh (the real one) has just returned from holidays and has been posted a message on the MUD to clarify things.

Until chemosh confirms that the post was by him we can not be certain that it was authentic. There is something strange with forum access but that does not necessarily mean anything.
Chemosh will be back from holidays this week and he will certainly clarify situation and (most likely) close solace.

Solace II / Common Discussions / Important message

It appears there may be a discrepancy in Chemosh's post and his holiday schedule. Nobody has been able to contact Chemosh and we are now checking on what is going on, particularly with his post and the deletion of all the old forum threads.
We do not want to raise any false hopes, but in the event that somebody has exploited the forum script you should maintain your characters as they normally would be (ie, don't do anything you might regret in 2 or 3 days time).

Solace II / Common Discussions / Characters who were denied for OOC reasons
|
on: August 28, 2004, 10:33:31 pm
|
Players who have had characters denied by kiri-jolith for OOC reasons (eg, he didn't like your posts on the forum) can send me a PM or post a note in Solace to have their character restored. Since the mud is likely to close in a week this is not particularly useful, but you may request it if you want.
I have talked to kiri-jolith about his actions. This use of immortal power is not acceptable and characters should not have been denied for OOC reasons.
However, players who constantly post insults to immortal(s) on the forums may be site-banned. This is a more appropriate response to OOC problems and it is not related to a player's characters but to the player himself.

Solace II / Common Discussions / Re:Who ruins Solace?

A lot for the things you say are features and were 'fixed' have been known about for ages (eg, the many ways to practice skills quickly such as fleeing from no-exit areas, using certain weapons against immune mobs, practicing skills from 1%).
In the past they were deliberately *not* 'fixed' because I thought players should be allowed to do such things. I've had lot of debates with chemosh on these sort of changes (eg, characters practicing spells by spamming the same one in their guilds was ok for me and I didn't think we needed to hard-code rules that stopped it).
On the other hand, Kiri-jolith prefers to fix such features and this makes him unpopular.
If players don't like these changes they have to post their reasons on why they shouldn't have been changed. The players who didn't like the changes and simply insulted immortals with stupid and rude comments have done nothing except make Chemosh sick of the entire thing.

Firstly, can people post only in english since many users are unable to read russian (and please don't say they can copy-and-paste into a translator).
Chemosh has been running Solace for a long time, since 1995, with just one interruption when he closed it a year ago. Running a mud is extremely time consuming and, as the years go by, increasingly less interesting. This is especially the case when players continue to cheat, whine and insult immortals.
A lot of the players criticise the immortal team, but at the same time take no responsibility for their own actions in the mud. Most of those who complain about immortals are the same people who cheat and use OOC teams to PK other players. These players are the ones who ruin the mud, and not just for other players but also for the people who try to build it.
Solace is run by chemosh and hosted at his expense and maintained on his time. Players who enjoy the mud and play it properly are more than welcome. Unfortunately people who just come here to ruin the game for others by ignoring the rules and just doing what they think is 'cool' have continued to ruin it for everyone.
Personally I think that it's highly unlikely that Chemosh will continue to maintain Solace beyond the next 2 weeks. There may be options for the mud itself but right now it is doubtful that any possible future Solace will include Chemosh or me. Both of us have been at this for a long time and it is time to move on.
The immortals will talk about what will happen with Solace and post a messages on the forum, but do not have too much expectation of Solace continuing (at least not in its current form).

Solace II / Logs / Re:new rangers animals.

Error in ac was my fault...i had given them better hp and accidently increased ac as well. The changes made ranger animals good (except for the ac error). It looks like they have been changed back with a huge reduction in power as well. I will talk to chemosh and figure out what is going on.
