deda, why you say this? unreals asks Matt, let Matt reply to unreal. unreal is not a good RP-er too, but it is another topic. Unreal never calls himself a good RP-er but Matt does. So let Matt show us several examples of his good RP.

Almost all of you can not stay in your role when you are in a fight. Not Caleb, nor Matt, nor ezus and etc. Only several people can  kill and stay in role when they need to think about PK. And they do not yell here that they are great RP-ers. Believe me.

I gotta say here... that there are many people who don't RP as well as they could I guess (hell... i'm one of them)
but I guess what matters in this case is the intention...
Do you try to RP? I am not accusing anyone or anything. I'm just saying that if someone can suck in RP... but if he tries, he has credit. 
And also... I guess... in many PK situations RP becomes more difficult simply because of the concentration it requires to think clearly while fighting. And typing a speech or something while someone is attacking you also can become quite hard. But I see many people who RP nicely during PK. If I may set one example, I would said Burghuz, the Iron Fist of Heretics (don't know if that is how you spell it, sorry). And battles with him until now were awesome! The funny part is that since I have so much fun with him in our battles... I feel like talking with him about the fight... which escapes my role I guess...
So I guess also... that depending of the reason you lacked RP sometimes... it is understandable....
Actually... I don' t know why I am writing all this... I've been awake for 36 hours straight and can't think clearly. 

And well.... truly... dehucka's words are awesome as well. He said it better then anyone could.
Only an add... some RP's must be taken in consideration then... I mean... is it possible with a knight such as Zacchaeus to become Grandmaster some day? If it were up to me, I would say no, but that doesn't mean it isn't an acceptable RP. It gives spice to the game, perhaps even a reason for the Guardians and Solamnics to fight amongst themselves, or other stuff.
Such reasons I think come from this radical point of view some characters have. And maybe even it is reason for a fuss inside Solamnia... like one faction against another in constant debates of what is the right and honorable thing to do.

RP is not only speaking and typing something wonderful. I saw great characters with great RP and they did not say much:-)

RP is something that you can feel from a person... And he will never say 'Damn, you suck' after his death, as many of you used to say...

I never said i was some elite rp freak. I believe RP is in action more than words and thats my problem here. Everyone thinks RP is talking but its not. Im sorry but if you take something from a corpse your motivation is greed. If your motivated by greed in the world of Krynn your doing the work of hiddukel, whether it is one item or none. If you worship a god of light you give not take. Elves looting Elves and all that other junk is wrong. Its not rocket science...

as for me - it s not greed. not so simple. it can be revenge, it can be wrong belives, it can be righteus riot for artifact - as quest of huma who greedy seek for lance, to kill takhisis. 

anyone need power to protect his belives, to achieve his purposes. knight to defend people need sword - why not fight with bare hands? better sword - better protection, better armor -  more innocent people will be saved from heretic death-machines... for example, or they should be naked, to not greedy loot anything at all?

it may be problem of game mechanics - as later it was *lost connection* - now it s *unusually dull eyes* - more RPish.

so, with looting - *lightfull and not greedy elf/knight/priest of mishakal kindfully borrow thing from corpse of bloodthirsty heretic/takhisis/forest beast/mounted berserker to save childrens, to stop war, to save their home, or mother or such*

even lightfull people need 'lances' to destroy darkness. i need all shinies to protect law better - etc. why not? why we all (and you too, Mattew greedy take things from corpse of NPC) trying to follow Hiddukel, heretic? What difference between greedy looting character and constantly greedy looting NPC from your RP point of view? You also check pockets of all killeld things - no? is it good for heretic warrior minotaur?

problem of game mechanics from my point of view.

if i belive that with death of heretic world will be better, and justice will be stronger - i will do all i can - so, it s just belives, nothing more. no greeds, no bastarding or assholing

if i belive that shinies will strenghen my clan - i will do all to achieve em. to turn em on side of justice for example...

Sure I'll make your day Urimarr... They can be the famous last words of my first and last characters on solace!  Well, Llith was not exactly my first char, i played many years before for a little while as well but first char this run. You really shouldn't kill the newbies 7 times in a day though.

Imagine if i had brought my clan here back then, lucky i liked the mud or Ezus gopa would look like kindergarden and solace would be a much stranger place. I checked out my old muds yesterday, all of the old clans have dissolved and everyone is all mixed up in different ones now, but the same old crap is going on, just like here. Anyway i keep seeing this junk cause forum was my homepage so imma sign off and change it, enjoy.

Nierth, i never said that my RP is great and so on. I never tried to roleplay anything except 'lust and profit' But also i never met such great RPlayers. At least last 3-4 years. Though as i think 'kill em all and say NOTHING' will suits any role in Solace.

In my time as a player, I was killed usually by a handful of people- Unreal, Ezus (I think) and Shapa. I don't know where this idea of "gopa" came from, but I always got killed by these guys 1 vs 1. And I usually treated them just the same as they treated me- No words, no asking for items, just continue with learning the tactics

After becoming imm and watching and speaking some times with Uneal and Shapa mostly, I can say they have acceptable roleplay and sometimes great roleplay.

Lyeine in particular, I always enjoyed her responses when people tried to find out her thoughts. I always saw her as "unreadable and mysterious, but still desiring someone to understand her, and never meeting any who could."

Shapa, I know he doesn't play anymore, but he even sent me an PM to ask how he can improve his roleplay, because he was tired of being called a crap rplayer. I applaud such actions

Hmm, I forgot what the point of this post was. Each man has his own RP. Or woman. And Matthew, I am sorry you're leaving because of such things, I always enjoyed your characters (again, mostly )  

Maybe just do what I used to do, take a break for a while and then come back and kick some scum! (or get kicked by scums, that was my usual fate )

I think I even know an excellent example. That mute assassin that existed long time ago had an awesome RP. She lived during the time where there were filled with Qualinesti elves, and  I remember that there was a ceremony in which she invoked a creature from the abyss or something. Don't remember the ceremony quite well, but I remember it was awesome. My brother is here saying also that she rocked.  Yep... she was great. Don't remember her name.

What I was saying actually, was a during PK situation... Some people... you imagine wouldn't do things in a fight... If I may set a example, there was a knight long ago, that when someone was attacked in the city, he refused to attack the attacker. Instead, he would group with the victim, heal him, and rescue him in case he was attacked again. There is some great RP hidden in those actions. Some people forget tottaly their RP while fighting... not considering the actions their characters would take in such fights... I don't imagine a cleric of Mishakal helping to draconians to kill an outcast knight for example... but I have seen it happen already.
After the fighting has occured... I must agree that many people abandon their roles because the players are hot-headed or something. Its something you have to get used to... falling and stuff... problem is when someone that had nothing to do, like Josreke, goes and loots you, or finishes you off.
