Steal also doesn't work.

As a thief you may also 'slip' an object to a character.
You give a goblet of fine elven wine to a donkey.

A donkey is in perfect condition.

You peek at the inventory:
a goblet of fine elven wine

<782/782hp 423/423mana 297/297mv 7959tnl | W> steal wine donkey
You can't pry it away.

You can't pry it away.

And I’ve tried this hundreds of times. I keep getting this same message 'You can't pry it away.', no learning from mistakes or improvement. It just doesn’t work.

You cant steal items with the "inventory" flag.
This was made to protect shopkeepers and their stock. I think all shop items have this flag.
